We’re always looking for fun places to travel and recently we’ve focused on places we can drive to. A couple months ago, D Magazine did an article on 5 weekend getaway from Dallas, most of which I had heard of before. But when I came across the page on C.A.R.E., my mouth fell open. How was there a place, just over an hour away, with LIONS and TIGERS that I had never heard of?! My husband noted my excitement and proceeded to book us a weekend trip there to celebrate my birthday.
The Center for Animal Research and Education (C.A.R.E.) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to caring for over 50 exotic animals including mountain lions, tigers, leopards, bobcats, ring-tail lemurs, lions, llamas and a coati. You can visit the facility for tours year round, but the real prize is in staying at the facility.
They have two “adult only” rooms, 16 feet above two lion and tiger enclosures. As a suite-guest of the center, you get an exclusive behind the scenes tour of the entire facility and a opportunity to meet all the animals.
The rooms are $1000/night, but since the center is a non-profit, your entire room fee goes as a donation to C.A.R.E.! When you arrive, a host greets you and guides you to your room. Your host provides you with top notch service during your entire stay, waiting on you hand and foot!
Enjoy a once in a lifetime experience with these incredible creatures, be treated like royalty, while also donating to charity…what more could one ask for?!
